Can a non aggressive dog be trained to be aggressive or trained to be a guard dog?

i've found the best guard dogs aren't aggressive, they're loyal.
i had a dog for 9 years, she'd never shown any aggressive signs. in fact when my brother was 1 my mum went outside and saw him hitting the dog with a stick over and over and she just stood their looking at him. i would never have considered her a good guard dog until one day when mum and dad weren't home a man came to the door and i answered it. the guy seemed to be trying to sell me something and then he asked if mum or dad were home and i said no and after that i just remember he reached out to open the door and all of a sudden my dog snowy was at my ankle growling really ferociously. and then she started barking like those crazy guard dogs you see on tv.
i was so shocked, like i said she'd never shown any signs of aggression and the man got scared and went away. another weird thing is snowy never came down that end of the house, she'd been trained not to so it's not like she could have just walked past and seen a stranger, she would have deliberately broken the rules and i can't remember her ever doing this except for that one time. somehow she must have just known that there was a creep at the front door and come to me.
so rather than finding yourself an agressive dog you can't trust with your kids i recommend a loyal one. female dogs that have been desexed are naturally more loyal than others. get one that's a naturally smart breed (mine was a mix of different sheep dog breeds we got from a farm), train her really well, love her and spend time with her and she'll love you and protect you.
