How much would all this cost?

Postby PrincessButtercup » Sat Jan 23, 2010 7:27 am

my friend has 2 mixed breed dogs, male and female. she came home and the dogs were tied. i know, this was very irresponsible. we took the female to the vet and she's pregnant. my friend is low on money and doesn't have enough to get the female spayed, so i'm paying for both the male to be neutered and the female to have an emergency spay. how much is it going to cost me? i heard spaying while a female is pregnant is more expensive.. i would just like a price range. thank you .

I agree with Dano. Let the puppies be born. The dog is at great risk if getting spayed while pregnant. Don't do it. As for price, you are looking at around $180 for the male, or more, and for the female up to $350. It's going to be over $500. Let the pups live!

Spaying a pregnant female can run upwards of $200 or more, but it really depends on what vet you go to. I live in Phoenix, AZ and it costs about $200 to spay a pregnant female, but you could definately find a vet that would be willing to do it for less.

You may also save money if you explain the situation you are in and say that you want to get the male spayed, AND get the male neutered. The vet may run a lower price if you are having both operations done for the dogs.

The first two answers are full of bologna it's much better to have the pregnancy aborted which is MUCH better for the female since giving birth can be a dangerous process and may even require surgery. I'm not exactly positive on how much it will cost since it varied vet to vet, so my advice is to open up your phone book and call every vets office you can and find the lowest price. Also you can post on craigslist.com and ask there for low cost spay/neuter clinics in your area. Also i know this site This link is hidden. Please JOIN FREE and LOGIN to view this link. lists low cost/free spay/neuter clinics by state so you might be able to check there. Thank you for being responsible! There are so many unwanted dogs in the world, mixed AND purebred. You're doing those homeless dogs a favor by not allowing unwanted puppies to be born.

My vet charges $275 for spaying, not sure about neutering.

If you don't have the money for both right now, you can get a shot for the female that will cause her to miscarry the puppies. But you have to do it within a couple weeks of conception. It is basically an overdose of hormone. It costs about $30. Then you could neuter the male, and spay the female later.

I had to do this for a female that I rescued. I didn't realize she was in heat until it was too late. Got the shot, then had her spayed a couple of months later. You would have to go ahead and neuter the male though, because the shot causes her to stay in heat for another 2-3 weeks, and she would just get pregnant again.

contrary to the first answer, i don't know of any vets that wouldn't do a spay/abortion...
It will be pretty expensive, spay/abortions are 200-400, and it will depend on the breed, and how pregnant she is. The more pregnant, the more expensive.
The male will be 150-200. Many vets offer payment programs! ask!
