He has been very unstable on his hind legs for about 3mo. now, and is getting progressively worse. The vet tells me that at some point he will no longer be able to walk, but gives me no time line.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Beagle.

I do have a question though...
My Beagle was unstable on his rear legs a while back. It seemed like it hurt him to walk or stretch.
The vet wasn't able to find anything wrong, is this a symptom?

I personally do not know anything about this disease and really the best person to talk to is your vet.

I do have an article for you though that talks about myelopathy. I just hope it is the same one you are talking about

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I have an elderly Min Pin that is having problems using his rear legs.

Oh yes, I do not have any idea about how this disease progresses. Sorry.

Anyway, I got one of those rear leg harnesses for my dog and it works quite well. I have been looking into getting him a doggie wheel chair or cart. I found several companies that make them, as well as instructions on how to make it yourself. There are a lot of even better things out there to help you and your dog. If you want to e-mail me about any of these things, please feel free to. I have done extensive research on ways to accommodate my dog. Take care.
